Choosing the right service for you

Choosing the right service for youShepell, your employee and family assistance program (EFAP), knows that different situations call for different support options.  We offer many services and to meet your needs, our services come in a variety of easy-to-access formats.  With so many options at your fingertips, choosing the service that works best for you can be made a bit easier by considering a few things.

First and foremost, the urgency of your issue will determine whether a prompt, immediate response from a trained professional is necessary.  For example, if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, we recommend an immediate consultation with a clinician.

Consider your own lifestyle and what type of service would best fit with your family and work life demands. For many of us, finding time to visit a counsellor in person may not be practical given the seemingly never-ending demands on our time. This is why Shepell offers counselling in several modalities including telephonic, online chat and e-counselling and video-counselling (similar to Skype).   No matter what style of counselling you choose, a trained mental health professional is there to provide the help you need.

Learning Style

We are all unique in how we learn and process information. Some of us excel at visual learning so reading material on our own without distractions is helpful to us.  Some learn best and absorb information most effectively by listening and talking to another person.  If you are better served by a tool that allows you to take your time with the information, opting for a Health and Wellness Resource, such as “Enhancing your Relationship” may be right for you.   Ultimately, we are all unique in how we take in, process, and retain information but regardless of how you learn, Shepell has a tool that will suit your individual style.

Research & Referral Information

Family matters can be hard to balance, especially if you’re in the sandwich generation, which is why Shepell offers a number of research and referral options for you. While the service itself isn’t within the scope of EFAP, our Family Support Services team will let you know about child care, elder care or home care options in the location you need them. Let us take the time to get you this information so you don’t have to!

EFAP makes it easy for individuals (and their spouses and dependents), couples, and families to get support. And with so many options available, you can get the support you need when and where you need it.  If you’re still unsure what works best for you, start with what feels most comfortable.
